Confrontations continue in south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 5/9/2000
The Israeli occupation forces on Monday bombarded, using heavy artillery, the surroundings of Shaqra, Majdal Zoune, Dhour al-Azeib and Jib Sweid towns as well as the al-Salawqi valley in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese security sources said the shelling resulted in damaging a house in Majdal Zoune.
The sources said that earlier in the day, the Israeli occupation forces had carried out a mopping-up operation, using light and heavy machine guns against al-Hardoun area and the neighboring valleys.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli warplanes carried out mock raids, breaking the sound barrier over the central Bekaa in eastern Lebanon, the Lebanese security sources said.
In retaliation, the Lebanese resistance on Monday carried out several attacks against the positions of the Israeli occupation forces and their South Lebanon Army militia allies.
In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said its men rocketed and used machine guns in bombarding the Israeli and SLA militia positions in the al-Radar, Hawla, Balat, Hardoun and Shama' areas.
The statement said the attacks resulted in direct hits among the positions' elements.
Further reports from south Lebanon said that SLA militiamen were compelled to evacuate the Sheyar Azour position in the Jezzine area in the eastern district of south Lebanon, following a series of Lebanese resistance attacks.
The news reports from the occupied south Lebanon said the militiamen exploded the position at dawn on Monday and evacuated it.
