Barak speaks on the telephone with Mubarak
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 5/9/2000

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak on Monday made a telephone call to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to discuss the latest developments concerning the Israeli- Palestinian negotiations and the results of his meeting on Sunday with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, Israeli Radio said.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has admitted to the failure of the Israeli policy over more than 20 years as a result of the Israeli interference in Lebanon.

In an interview with the Israeli Hebrew-Language army radio on Monday, Barak added that Israel-- which reached Beirut, al-Shouf mountains, controlled south Lebanon for a long time, and established several militias groups including those of Antoine Lahd and others-- has not achieved what it hoped for, but lost more than 1,000 persons who were killed during the past 20 years.

He said that therefore when his current government has come it decided to end this "play" and its sufferings.
