Visiting Jewish delegation to promote Morocco in Latin - America
Morocco, Culture, 5/8/2000
Adviser to the king Andre Azoulay invited members of the visiting Latin-American Jewish delegation to be Morocco's ambassadors in their countries and promote the kingdom as a land where Jews and Moslems have, for centuries, lived happily together in mutual respect, dignity and peace.
In a dinner-banquet Saturday, Azoulay told the 450 members of the delegation Latin-America has not yet grasped what the kingdom stands for and urged visitors to tell co-citizens of Moroccan history, values, culture, achievements and overture onto the world.
He recalled the positive and leading role played by the kingdom in the Middle-East peace process and asked members of the delegation to explain in their respective countries the nature of the struggle Morocco wages for development, integrity and stability.
Talking to bankers and entrepreneurs in the delegation, economy and finance minister Fathallah Oualalou underscored investment opportunities in the kingdom, the privatization program under which several public sectors are going private and breaks in the 2000-2004 economic and social development plan.
Moroccan Jews World Rally chairman Serge Berdugo and head of the delegation Emile Azoulay, head of Europe's "Convention Salam, Shalom 2000" paid tribute to the role the kingdom played under the late king Hassan II in the quest for peace in the Middle-East and consolidation of dialogue between Arabs and Jews.
