Trade boosted between Iraq, Egypt

An Egyptian official announced on Sunday in Baghdad that contracts valued at US $100 million were signed on the sidelines of the Egyptian trade exposition currently being held in Baghdad.

The director of the Egyptian trade center in Baghdad, Awoni Hashem, added that Egyptian companies taking part in the Egyptian products exhibition held in Baghdad signed contracts with the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce in the framework of the 7th phase of the oil-for-food agreement, and the value of these contracts is estimated at US $100 million.

Hashem added that the contracts signed covered foodstuffs valued at US $80 million, agricultural equipment valued at US $15 million, tires valued at US $5 million and ceramics valued at US $4.5 million.

He added that the volume of contracts signed between Iraq and Egyptian establishments in the framework of previous phases of the oil-for-food agreement increased by US $1 billion and cover all fields.

The Egyptian exhibition in Baghdad which is the second for this year to be held in Baghdad was concluded on Sunday.

The exhibition, in which some 100 Egyptian companies specialized in engineering, chemical, agricultural, foodstuffs and medicinal, melting, contracts and construction products took part, was opened in Baghdad last Sunday and lasted for one week, in the presence of a large Egyptian delegation.
