WTO says African tourism industry is improving fast

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has released preliminary results which indicate that tourism to Africa grew by 9% in 1999, putting it in the top five regions for growth behind Central America (23%), the Middle East (17.5%) and South America (10%).
South Africa is still the most popular tourism destination in Africa.
The WTO results show that international tourist arrivals around the world reached 657 million in 1999, an increase of 3.2% over the previous year.
Earnings from international tourists also rose by 3.2% last year to reach 455 billion dollars, following two consecutive years of flat growth.
