Palestinian people's front denies involvement in Lockerbie incident
Regional-Palestine, Politics, 5/5/2000

Talal Naji, the assistant secretary general of the People's Front- General Command, led by Ahmad Jibril, expressed the readiness of the front to send a lawyer to give his testimony in the trial of the two Libyans who are accused of exploding a Pan Am passenger jet over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988.

In a statement to the London-based al-Hayat daily issued on Thursday, replying to accusations addressed by the lawyers of the two Libyans, Naji added, "I am sure they do not have any evidence on their accusations which aim at pressuring Syria for her steadfastness in the peace process."

Naji added, "It is not the first time when the front is accused of this incident, noting that similar accusations were addressed to his front in 1988 and 1991. We had stated and we are saying that we do not have any link to this incident. We ask them to show evidences because we are sure they do not have any. We concentrate our operations inside Palestine since the launching of the front since 40 years."

Naji added that the Lockerbie incident has been used as a "roving accusation from Syria to Libya, despite the fact the two countries have no links to it. I think accusations should be addressed to Israel and the intelligence system Mossad on that."

Naji continued that addressing accusations to the People's Front- General Command and to the People's Struggle Front, led in Damascus by Khaled Abdul Miguid, "aims at pressuring Syria under its steadfast stand in the peace process." He indicated that Muhammad Abu Taleb, whose name was linked to the front, "Has never been at any time a member in our front."
