Mubarak birth date, a chance to look back at a recod of accomplishments
Egypt, Politics, 5/4/2000
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak presents an opportunity to look back at Egypt's accomplishments under his presidency.
Since 1981, President Mubarak has walked long avenue in pushing Egypt forward, coming up with radical and realistic solutions to the nation's chronic socioeconomic ailments. His accomplishments, recognized the world over, have pumped fresh blood and vigor into Egypt's economy.
To fulfill this vital goal, President Mubarak has spared no effort to create the most favorable climate for investment. Over the years, he has never left a chance without highlighting the government's relentless efforts and unshakable resolve to remove all obstacles in the way of investment.
Upon his instructions , a package of regulations and facilities have been put into action to lure investors into netting up plants and implementing titanic projects covering a wide spectrum of activities.
These policies have borne fruit that has reflected positively on Egypt's economy. Bearing in mind that attracting investors to Egypt would not be feasible without putting in order the country's deplorable infrastructure, the successive governments of President Mubarak have undertaken a string of ambitious five-year national development plans in this regard.
These plans have made Egyptians as well as investors have access to high-quality public services in the vital areas of power, communications, sanitation and roads.
As Mubarak has been keen on luring his compatriots out of the narrow confines of the Old Nile Delta Valley, he launched the daring and well-calculated step to invade Egypt's vast deserts, where new urban communities are being built.
He gave the go-ahead to a number of mammoth projects that are expected to help the country harness its sky-limit potential and open up new avenues for investments in land reclamation, industrialization and mining.
Such mega-projects, under way in the long-neglected Southern Valley and Sinai, will also absorb the burgeoning population.
President Mubarak's successful economic reforms have been tailored to fit the Egyptian society and its characteristics. Hence, he has rejected any foreign demands either to devalue the Egyptian pound or to dictate how to steer the country's economy.
The world financial institutions have been praising Egypt's economic miracle and reform steps, which they regard as a shining example for developing countries to follow suit.
On a parallel line, democracy is a goal President Mubarak has been unswervingly pursuing since he assumed Egypt's presidency. He has been a firm believer and supporter of political pluralism and freedom of the press.
He has pledged never to deny any person, be a supporter or an opponent, the right to express his views freely. With his promise fulfilled, Egypt today has political parties that represent the spectrum of all ideologies leanings.
The Egyptian leader's performance at both regional and international levels has gained public approval since 1981. He gains credit for steering Egypt back into the Arab fold following years of isolation imposed after Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979.
For the whole Arabs, Egypt, under Mubarakšs leadership, has regained its national role, as the standard bearer of Arab causes and interests. In the same vein, President Mubarak holds constants contacts with regional world leaders on how to best serve Arab interests and maintain their rights.
Moreover, he vigorously exerts diplomatic efforts to revive the Middle East peace process stalled over Israeli policies for a year. And the world's support for Egypt in this regard has always been pronounced.
On the other hand, Mubarak has been keen on promoting and cementing ties with African and Asian nations through developing means of reinvigorating the Non-Alignment Movement and the G-15 roles, an official statement said.
