Mubarak, al-Assad to meet in Sharm esh Sheikh next week
Egypt-Syria, Politics, 5/4/2000

Well-informed political sources in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, said on Wednesday that President Muhammad Hosni Mubarak of Egypt will meet with President Hafez al-Assad at Sharm El-Sheikh resort next week.

The sources stressed that the long-awaited summit will discuss the latest developments concerning the peace process in the region, especially in light of Israel's decision to withdraw from south Lebanon according to UN resolution 425, a withdrawal which Egypt has strongly backed and set a precondition to have this withdrawal from the "land, sea and airspace."

The sources also stressed that Cairo and Damascus are "working for the sake of peace and sublime Arab interests."
