Some 52 experts in the areas of archives and documentation from 22 Arab and foreign states are taking part on Saturday in Cairo in an international conference on documentation. The conference, which lasts for three days, is being held at the invitation of the Egyptian national documentation and book publication house.

The book house's board member, Samir Gharib, who is also the chairman of the conference, said on Tuesday that the conference, which aims at acquainting workers in the areas of archives and documentation in Egypt, will address modern trends of studies in the world and work to become acquainted with the experimental aspects of this field due to its importance in preserving the documents and history of the Arab states.

Gharib stressed that the conference's first session will be held at the premises of the Arab League (AL) and opened by AL Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid and the Egyptian minister of culture. He added that the conference will be moved to the headquarters of the book house on the eastern bank of the Nile.

The conference deals with four pillars pertaining to problems of research, archive services and other related issues.

Among the most prominent participating figures are the chairman of the high council for the archive, Jon Van Albada; the director of the national archives in Sweden, Bjorn Land; the chairman of the Arab regional branch at the international council for Archive, (Algeria's) Abdul Karim Bajajeh; heads of documentation departments in the Arab states, as well as some 20 Egyptian specialists and researchers.

On the sidelines of the conference, a documentation exhibition will be held from the archive of the national documentation house from the 13th century until the 20th century, according to the chairman of the documentation house, Muhammad Saber Arab.
