Luxembourg's deputy premier meets Moroccan parliament speakers

Visiting deputy premier of Luxembourg, Mrs. Lydie Polfer, held separate meetings in Rabat Tuesday with the speakers of the two houses of the Moroccan Parliament, Abdelouahed Radi and Jalal Essaid.

Talks covered the current juncture and the economic challenges thrown at the country, especially in matters of new technologies, foreign investments and staff training.

The two sides also discussed cooperation between Morocco and the European Union, the Moroccan side underlining the kingdom's legitimate right to preserve its sea resources when talks touched on Morocco-EU cooperation in fisheries.

The visiting deputy premier of Luxembourg-- who is also minister of foreign affairs, of foreign trade and of civil service and administrative reform-- was briefed on the issue of Morocco's territorial integrity, the various phases of the country's liberation process and the tremendous efforts made to enhance the development of the southern provinces that were formerly under Spanish rule and that were retrieved by Morocco in 1975.

The Luxembourg official voiced her country's determination to upgrade cooperation and partnership with Morocco that she described as "a unique case in the region" owing to its stability, overture and steady progress towards development.

During the meeting with Jalal Essaid, it has been decided to hold a meeting between Luxembourg economic operators and businessmen and members of the Chamber of Advisors. The date of the meeting has not been set yet.

The Luxembourg deputy premier had earlier met Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Mohammed Benaissa and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Taieb Fassi Fihri.

The meeting discussed the Barcelona Euro-Mediterranean process and the Morocco-European Union association accord.

The visiting official is scheduled to meet Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi and Minister of Economy and Finance Fathallah Oualalou.
