Egypt succeeds in anti-terrorism fight
Egypt-USA, Politics, 5/3/2000

The US administration has anew accentuated the Egyptian governmentıs great success in fighting terrorism and promoting international cooperation in the fight against this phenomenon.

The US State Department's annual report on terrorism cited that in 1999 there were no terrorist-related attacks in Egypt.

At a press conference held last night he said this was the first time in years that no deaths due to terrorism were recorded in Egypt.

The report said that the decline of terrorism in Egypt was due to efforts by the Egyptian government against terrorism.

The Egyptian government was adamant not to hold negotiations with the "Gama'a al-Islamiya" but released last year 2000 of its members after they announced their repentance and renounced terrorism.

The US report mandated by the US Congress as a result of past targeting of US citizens by terrorists indicated that 5 US citizens died from terrorism, and the five died in Colombia.
