Egypt sets up national human rights council
Egypt, Politics, 5/3/2000
The secretary general of the Egyptian Human Rights Organization, Hafez Abu Saada, hailed the positive performance of the Moroccan human rights advisory council (CCDH).
Commenting on the Egyptian government's intention to set up a human rights council, Abu Saada cited the CCDH experience in Morocco which helped settle a set of human rights issues, mainly the recognition of the rights of victims of repression to compensation and the return from exile of opponents. He said Egypt ought to draw inspiration from the Moroccan experience.
For Amir Salem, member of the Cairo's legal studies center, the Egyptian initiative will yield positive results, citing as an evidence the Moroccan experience in this field.
