United Nations coordinator of humanitarian affairs in Iraq

Tun Myat of Myanmar, the new United Nations coordinator of humanitarian affairs in Iraq arrived yesterday in Baghdad to succeed outgoing German official Hans Von Sponeck, who resigned from his post in protest against the UN policy toward Iraq.
Myat said as soon as he arrived that his main duty will not be running the economic sanctions imposed by the UN on Iraqi for more than 10 years, adding that he came to guarantee the arrival of the other humanitarian and food supplies to the Iraqis.
He added that he will work on delivering two-thirds of the Iraqi petroleum exported according to the oil-for-food agreement in the form of food and medication for the Iraqi people.
