Prince Nayef: Gulf states differences on security agreement
Gulf, Politics, 5/2/2000
Saudi Minister of Interior Prince Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz admitted to the existence of disputes among the Gulf Cooperation Council member states concerning the security agreement scheduled to be signed among them, saying that Qatar did not sign it and Kuwait has some reservations.
Prince Nayef said the agreement must not be regarded only for its security dimensions, as it has a direct effect on social and economic aspects as it relates to the concept of cooperation in combating crime and drugs and investment in the GCC member states.
He said the differences are very limited, expressing his hope that the points of view would merge, adding that the differences focus on article 22 of the agreement concerning the handing over of citizens between the member states and that Kuwait has reservations toward it. He said that citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council states would gain equal rights and obligations
