Regional-International, Religion, 5/2/2000
The roving university on the three monotheist religions started works in Ifrane Sunday at the Al Akhawayn University under royal patronage probing the topic: "Abraham's expectation: cross-religious dialogue."
The university session which is a tribute to the late King Hassan II who upheld tolerance, understanding and dialogue between the three religions is attended by Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan, advisers to the Moroccan king, Islamic Affairs and Habus Minister Abdelkebir Alaoui M'daghri, the great rabbi of France Rene-Samuet Sirat, and the Pope's delegate Michael Fitzgerald, secretary general of the pontifical inter-religious dialogue council, and outstanding religious and political figures from several countries.
Roundtables look into issues such as the relevance of religious message nowadays, science and religion and training of religious staff. Participants will also hear messages of peace from outstanding figures.
The university which convened similar sessions in Amman and Al Quds, is now considering events in Europe and the United States.
