Tunisian opposition hails Ben Ali's presidency
Tunisia-France, Politics, 5/2/2000
The Tunisian opposition hailed the presidency of President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali from November 1987 to the present.
Mohammed Hermel, the secretary general of the Renovation Movement (the largest opposition parliamentary bloc) said the Tunisian democratic track started to take shape and has achieved obvious gains in this field, and everyone must work to develop these gains and support Ben Ali, who is making legislative reforms aiming at supporting Tunis' democratic experiment.
Hermel also refused the severe French media campaign against his country and blamed it on confusion and animosity toward the unique democratic experiment in Tunis, calling on the French mass media to study the democratic experiment in Tunisia instead of making this severe attack.
