Regional-International, Politics, 5/2/2000

The conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on Monday afternoon continued deliberations of its 103rd session in Amman.

The Arab parliamentary group was able to include the issues of refugees and the displaced as additional items to the agenda of the conference. This issue was settled due to its importance according to the Middle East region and the increasing number of refugees.

Earlier in the day, the conference began its deliberations in Amman with the participation of parliamentary delegations from 139 countries.

At the morning session, which was attended by 1,500 parliamentarians, the conference discussed main issues listed for discussion on the meeting's agenda.

On the sideline of the IPU's conferences, the speaker of the Syrian Parliament, Abdul Qadder Qaddoura, met in Amman on Monday with the speaker of the Jordanian upper house, Zeid al- Refa.

Talks dealt with the Middle East peace process and Syria's unwavering stand based on international legitimacy resolutions, the land-for-peace formula and Israel's withdrawal to its June 4, 1967 border lines.

Al-Refa stressed his country's position in supporting international legitimacy resolutions, the establishment of a just and comprehensive peace and Israel's withdrawal to the June 4, 1967 lines.
