Cohen warns against attacking Israel after its withdrawal from Lebanon
Syria-Regional-USA, Politics, 5/2/2000
US Defense Decretary William Cohen has warned that Israel will not stand still if it is attacked after its withdrawal from south Lebanon.
Israeli Radio quoted Cohen as saying on Monday to the London-based al-Hayat daily that this will result in very grave confrontations in Lebanon.
Cohen expressed his conviction that the Syrians are fully aware that the Israelis will repel any aggressions directed against them.
Cohen, on the other hand quoted Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, whom he met recently, as saying that the window of opportunity to reach peace between Syria and Israel is very narrow and is about to close off, yet it is still open.
