Rabat hosts Maghreban seminar on promotion of human rights and peace culture
Morocco-Maghreb-International, Politics, 5/1/2000

Rabat will host this May 3-5 a Maghreban seminar on promotion of human rights and peace culture, organized by the local UNESCO bureau and German Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

Held to mark the world press freedom day (May 3), the encounter will bring together North African journalists, non-governmental associations and human rights-advocacy organization who will look into how the media can help in the Maghreb construction, through a free movement of news and ideas and the dissemination of shared values and aspirations.

A statement by the organizers said journalists cannot fulfill this mission unless they enjoy a total speech freedom and assume their responsibility in seeking a better understanding between the peoples.

The United Nations General Assembly of 1993 had decided to mark May 3 as the world press freedom day.
