Israel shoulders responsibility of repatriation of Palestinian refugees
Egypt-France, Politics, 5/1/2000
"Egypt and France share identical views regarding the importance of maintaining impetus of the peacemaking and rejecting any attempt by Israel to freeze talks on the Syrian track or to drive a wedge between Syria and Lebanon," Presidential Political Advisor Osama el-Baz said following a two-day visit to France during which he took part in the meetings of the International Conference on Solving Refugee Problem.
The conference was organized by the United Nations in cooperation with the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Conference at the UNESCO premises in Paris.
Baz said that the conference focused on the problem of Palestinian refugees and the need to implement UN General Assembly resolution 194 on the right of the Palestinian refugees to return home.
"Talks also covered the developments of the peace process in the Middle East and efforts exerted by Egypt to propel negotiations on the Syrian and Palestinian tracks," Baz added.
"Egypt and France agree on the need to push forward talks on the Syrian track while maintaining the drive on the Palestinian track concerning the transitional phase and the final-status talks," he expounded.
