Oman begins negotiations to join WTO
Oman, Economics, 4/29/2000

Oman started its first negotiations to enter the World Trade Organization, which can be a challenge for getting into the system of economic globalization, especially as globalization is no longer considered an option, and the countries ignoring it may face isolation and risks, Omani Trade Minister Makboul Ali Sutlan said.

Ali Sutlan asked that carrying out the agreements of the World Trade Organization be associated with other steps on the regional and local levels represented in Arab and Gulf states as well as in supporting steps aimed at establishing a customs system and the Arab free trade zone.

Sultan emphasized the private sector's role in establishing high-tech industries in view of the priority and focus which are set by the country's industrial strategy.
