Mauritanian president ends visit to Morocco
Morocco-Mauritania, Politics, 4/29/2000

Mauritanian President Mouaouyia Ould Sid Ahmed Taya left Casablanca Friday at the end of a three-day official visit to Morocco.

A joint statement released at the end of the visit says King Mohammed VI and the Mauritanian president held talks on bilateral relations and means to develop them, in addition to a set of other Arab, Islamic, African and regional issues, topped by the future of the Arab Maghreb Union.

The statement also announced the creation of a high joint commission, chaired by the two north African countries' prime ministers, to activate mechanisms for bilateral cooperation.

Upon arrival home, president Taya said he is convinced his visit to Morocco would contribute to consolidating brotherly relations and cooperation between the two peoples.

Morocco and Mauritania are both members of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA) which also musters Algeria, Libya and Tunisia.
