Land mine victims in Sudan
Sudan, Local, 4/29/2000
The Sudanese daily al-Anbaa said on Friday that three persons were killed and another eight wounded in a land mine explosion outside the city of Kasla, in eastern Sudan.
The paper quoted the governor of Kasla, Ibrahim Mahmoud, as saying that the opposition is responsible for this incident which took place north of the city, near the borders with Eritrea, adding that thousands of land mines were planted in the province by what he called "traitors and the outlaws, who think they can ascend the authority by killing the innocents."
He stated that such land mines resulted in the past months in killing several persons and wounding others and the destruction of public coaches and cars.
