Morocco sets up information coordination body on Sahara

The Moroccan communications department and the National Press Union (SNPM) have decided to set up a commission to coordinate information regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue.
Al-Ittihad Al-Ichtiraqi daily of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces of Premier, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, which reported the news said although the creation of such a body was made with much delay, the move will help journalists and the public opinion have access to information concerning the issue.
The commission should provide journalists with "(comprehensive) information" so that they can accomplish their task in all responsibility, inform the public opinion, contribute to shedding light on the national territorial integrity and face up all that can harm the national unanimity regarding the issue, the daily said.
Al-Ittihad Al-Ichtiraqi voiced hope to see the commission be a reference to check all information concerning the Sahara issue and serve as a means to prevent misinformation.
The daily underlined that the commission must not be seen as a tool to interfere with the freedom of the press.
The daily recalled that Moroccan journalists had called for the creation of such a body, and had repeatedly complained about their inability to access information sources on the issue, MAP reported.
