Morocco, Mauritania set up high joint commission
Morocco-Mauritania, Politics, 4/28/2000

Morocco and Mauritania decided to set up a high joint commission to boost bilateral economic and commercial cooperation.

The decision was announced in a joint statement made public Thursday at the end of the official visit President Mouaouia Ould Sid Ahmed Taya of Mauritania paid to Morocco April 26-28.

The commission will be chaired by the two countries' prime ministers and will "define future actions" to boost bilateral relations in all fields.

President Taya visited Morocco at the invitation of King Mohammed VI, with whom he held a series of talks on bilateral relations and other regional, Arab and international issues of common concern.

At an exchange of speeches during a dinner banquet King Mohammed VI held in honor of his Mauritanian guest the two heads of state pledged to consolidate bilateral cooperation and renewed commitment to revive the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA, mustering besides Mauritania and Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Tunisia).
