Morocco, Agriculture, 4/27/2000
Morocco is implementing a $ 152,000 program to fight a pest threatening leaves of citrus fruit trees.
The program, cosponsored by the Moroccan government and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, is being implemented over an 18-month period. It prescribes a rational use of pesticides, identifying alternative means to chemical products against the pest, while preserving the quality of the Moroccan produce.
The progress of the program was assessed at an experts meeting Wednesday in Marrakesh.
The program was devised following the outbreak of the pest in 1994, entailing enormous loss.
