British humanitarian organization to visit Iraq
Iraq-UK, Politics, 4/27/2000

A British humanitarian organization called "protecting voices in the land" announced that a group representing it will head for Iraq carrying a large amount of medical supplies, books and references in an attempt aimed at penetrating the embargo imposed on Iraq.

In a statement, the group said on Wednesday that it had refused to officially apply to get an export license for the medical supplies, according to the sanctions law imposed on Iraq, a matter which makes this group vulnerable to the risks of detention and trial.

The statement added that the group will leave the British airport Heathrow today for Jordan and then to Iraq. It explained that the group on Wednesday submitted a message to the office of the British prime minister Tony Blair declaring the objective of this trip and renewed its call for lifting the sanctions imposed on Iraq.
