Excavations unearth prehistoric earthenware in northern Morocco
Morocco, Culture, 4/26/2000
Archeological excavations in northern Morocco have unearthed earthenware, stones and animal remains dating back to the prehistoric era.
The items discovered by a Moroccan-Belgian team of archaeologists earlier this month were displayed Monday evening in the Contemporary Art Museum of Tangiers.
The items include bones, skulls, sea shells, carved stones and earthenware utensils.
According to the head of the team, the items are similar to others discovered in southern and eastern Spain and in Portugal.
The team-- working under a Moroccan-Belgian cooperation accord signed in October 1999-- will conduct other excavations in some 65 archeological sites in the region of Tangiers up to March 2001.
