Mauritania opposition leader arrested

The Mauritanian authorities arrested Ahmed Ould Dadah, chief of the opposition. The spokesman of his party, the Union of Democratic Forces-New Era (UFD/NE), said the police drove him from the headquarters of the party.
A spokesman in the Mauritanian Interior Ministry said Ould Dadah was detained due a statement he recently made in which he publicly instigated violence against the government.
