Gulf-European Union, Economics, 4/25/2000
An official in the United Arab Emirates on Monday in Dubai expressed the optimism of the Arab Gulf states toward achieving progress toward canceling the customs fees of 6% imposed by the European Union on its aluminum exports by the end of this summer.
He director at the economic development department in Dubai, Khaled Bu Hamid, said that the Arab Gulf states might receive by the end of this summer a positive reply to this effect, but under the condition of continuing utmost political pressure on the European Union.
He also indicated that the GCC intends to debate the question of the 6% fee during the ministerial meeting of the foreign ministers of the countries of the Gulf Cooperation council and the European Union in Brussels on May 22.
