Iranian defense minister arrives in Saudi Arabia

Iranian Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Ali Shamakhani arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday for a visit which will last for several days, during which he will meet with King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz and Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz.
Lt. Gen. Shamakhani will also hold talks with the Saudi deputy premier and defense minister dealing with bilateral relations between the two countries and means of developing them especially in defense, military and security areas. He will also discuss cooperation relations between Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council member states and means of strengthening them in the service of joint interests and international and regional issues of mutual concern.
Meanwhile, Shamakhani stated that the aim of his visit to Saudi Arabia is to discuss issues previously agreed upon between the two countries with the objective of developing and strengthening bilateral relations.
In a pre-departure statement he made in Tehran on Monday before heading to Saudi Arabia, the Iranian defense minister said that Iranian-Saudi relations have been witnessing notable progress and that these relations have entered the phase of development and strengthening exchanged confidence.
He described the process of exchanging military attaches between the two countries as a positive step towards developing and strengthening bilateral relations. He said that his country desires to eliminate any tension and to settle all pending issues with the countries of the region.
The Iranian defense minister denied that Iran has been exposed to regional threats.
