Libya withdraws its ambassador from Qatar
Libya-Qatar, Politics, 4/25/2000
Libya has decided to summon its ambassador in Doha after the Qatari satellite television station broadcast a program containing criticism of Libya.
AFP quoted the Qatari daily al-Raya on Monday as saying that the Libyan leadership decided to summon the secretary of the Libyan Arab amity office in Doha, al-Mabrouk Muhammad al-Maadani, to Tripoli to make consultations, despite the intensive efforts made by Qatar during the recent hours to contain the situation and to convince the Libyan leadership not to take such a decision.
The paper reported that the Libyan decision came in protest of the content of the recent series of al-Itijah al-Mu'akis (The Opposite Direction) program the al-Jazira satellite station broadcast last Tuesday, especially what was stated against the leader of the Libyan revolution.
The participants in the program criticized the Libyan government and the ruling system in Libya, which is based on people's committee. The participants also described the ruling process in Libya as a dictatorship and said that the only decision-maker in Libya is Col. Moammar Gaddafi.
