Saudi Arabia, Local, 4/25/2000

An official source at the Saudi Ministry of the Interior announced that one security man was killed and another three wounded while persons calling for the release of a man who was arrested by the security men and charged with practicing witchcraft gathered in front of the house of Najran district, opening fire and burning several cars.

In a statement to the Saudi news agency broadcast on Monday, the source stated that the Saudi security authorities learned that an illegal resident in Najran city, situated in southern Saudi Arabia, was practicing witchcraft on a large scale. The source added that when the security men were inspecting the house of the witch one of his companions opened fire on the security men and one of them was seriously wounded, and later the security men arrested the witch.
