Mubarak plays key role on developing international relations
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 4/24/2000

Senegalese Prime Minister Mustafa Niaas on Friday described Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak as a great African figure playing a key role in developing international relations with the aim of achieving peace, cooperation and development.

"Egypt can double its efforts and activities in the African continent, starting from Sudan to Cape Town," Niaas said.

Egypt is a developed country in various fields, possessing great potentials of nuclear technology used in peaceful purposes, he added.

In statements to MENA, Niaas said President Mubarak, thanks to his good relations with eastern and western countries, can together with other African leaders activate cooperation with sub-Saharan states.

President Mubarak's call for rendering the Middle East a region free from all weapons of mass destruction has a positive response not only among the Mideast countries but also in Africa as well, according to Niaas.

Egypt-Senegal relations are distinguished but they, however, did not reach the aspired level up till now, he added.

Accordingly, Niaas said that he intends to look into activating the frozen mechanisms of bilateral cooperation with his Egyptian counterpart Atef Ebeid and Foreign Minister Amr Moussa.

Time is now ripe for holding a meeting of the Egypt-Senegal higher committee to examine their scope of cooperation in various domains, an Egyptian statement said.
