King Abdullah discusses Middle East peace with Israel

Jordanian King Abdullah II has asserted the importance of commitment to the principle of land-for-peace with the objective of eliminating all obstacles facing the Middle East peace process.
In statements he made upon arriving at the Israeli Eilat port in his first visit after assuming power in Jordan, King Abdullah added that the cause of Palestine is the essence of the Arab- Israeli conflict.
He expressed his hope that the current year will witness a breakthrough that would revive hopes in the Palestinians and maintain justice for them.
The Jordanian king also expressed his hope that peace talks will be resumed on the Syrian and Lebanese tracks in the near future.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak described the Jordanian king as a full partner in the peace process. He added, "I am looking forward to continuing work with" the Jordanian king. Barak expressed his confidence that King Abdullah's visit will deepen relations between the two sides.
Barak held with King Abdullah a meeting at Sabaa hotel in he city of Eilat. Barak expressed happiness that the Jordanian king arrived in Israel, taking the same path pursued by his father, the late King Hussein. Talks between King Abdullah and Barak centered on the Middle East peace process on various tracks, especially on the Palestinian track.
King Abdullah and Queen Rania arrived in Eilat on a short working visit. The king was accompanied by Prime Minister Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh; the chairman of the royal cour, Fayez Tarawneh; the director of the general intelligence, Samih al-Bateikhi; the acting minister of commerce and industry; the ministers of tourism, antiquities, and waters and irrigation; and the director of the economic department at the royal court.
