US embassy in Khartoum resumes activities
Sudan-USA, Politics, 4/21/2000

The Sudanese news agency said on Thursday that the US embassy in Khartoum has resumed its diplomatic activities with the arrival of a charge d'affairs in Khartoum two years after suspending its works.

The news agency added that the charge d'affairs Donald Teitelbaum who arrived in Khartoum coming from Nairobi, had resumed his activities on Saturday, while consul Donald Mulligan will arrive from Cairo at the beginning of next week. An administrative attache is also expected to arrive shortly from Kenya.

According to the agency, the Sudanese foreign ministry has recently offered entry visas for three diplomats.

Worthy mentioning, Washington had closed off its embassy in al-Khartoum in February 1996 and transferred its working staff to Nairobi following the UN sanctions which was imposed on Sudan in order to hand over the " presumed " persons who are responsible for the assassination attempt against President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt in 1995 in Addis Ababa.
