Hizbullah resistance acts on increase
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 4/21/2000
Israeli security sources stated that a notable increase has been seen during the recent week in the activities of the Hizbullah organization in south Lebanon.
Israeli Radio quoted these sources as saying on Wednesday that exchanges of gunfire increased by 20% and that the operations carried out by the Hizbullah Party aimed at striking positions of the Israeli Army near the international borders.
The radio report viewed Hizbullah's action as intended to test the response of the Israeli Army towards its operations in light of the deadlock which governs the peace negotiations with Syria and Israel's suspension of meetings of the April Understanding committee.
The sources stated that Hizbullah is responsible for escalating conditions in the region with the objective of obstructing the withdrawal of the Israeli Army from south Lebanon.
The radio indicated that several Katyusha missiles were launched on northern Israel on April 18, adding that the governments in both Damascus and Beirut continue to coordinate their stances in preparation for the Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon.
