Palestinian official visits Morocco
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 4/20/2000
Farouk Kaddoumi, head of the political department at the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), arrived in Casablanca on Wednesday on an official visit "to inform King Mohammed VI on latest developments in the peace process."
In an interview with MAP, the Palestinian official hailed Morocco's unwavering support to the Palestinian cause and to the Palestinians' rights to establish their independent state.
He said Arab reconciliation and preparing the adequate atmosphere are requisites for the holding of an Arab summit to look into various developments in the region and evaluate the peace process. Although Arab states are keen on convening a summit, an assessment of what has been achieved since the latest Cairo summit of 1996 and healing relations between Arab states, particularly lifting the embargo imposed on Iraq, are needed.
Regarding the latest developments in the region, he said all tracks of the peace process are staggering as Israel continues to refuse to apply agreements passed with Palestine. Israel's obstinacy runs counter to peace, he said.
He also praised the role of King Mohammed VI, chairman of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) committee, and the Moroccan support to the Palestinian cause as evidenced by the multiple Arab summits hosted by the Kingdom.
