King Mohammed calls government to intensify efforts to alleviate drought effects
Morocco, Economics, 4/20/2000

King Mohammed VI called on Wednesday the government to intensify efforts to face drought effects, renewing the interest he grants to the rural world.

The king, who was chairing a ministers council, invited the government members to undertake ground visits to enquire about the situation of drought-affected citizens and inform them about ongoing efforts. He also called for campaigns to foster awareness to the need for a good management of water resources.

The sovereign also gave instructions to transfer privatization receipts to the Hassan II fund for economic and social development which will become a standing institution.

During the meeting, economy and finance minister, Fathallah Oualalou, expounded before the king the broad lines of the draft financial bill, running between July 1 through December 31.

The king stressed the need to heed social issues in the finance bill, by securing job opportunities, improving the living standards of populations and taking actions to alleviate drought effects.
