El-Feki: Changing Arab League charter a necessity for the future
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 4/20/2000
Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Mostafa El-Feki, Egypt's permanent delegate at the Arab League, asserted the importance of changing the Arab League charter at the end of the current settlement operation between the Arabs and Israel on the different tracks to cope with the changes and challenges confronting the Arab states in the coming stage.
El-Feki added in his meeting yesterday with members of Lownez Club that the Arab League must not remain a captive of the Arab - Israeli conflict, therefore its current charter which includes a complete attachment about Palestine must be changed.
He said there are three main issues upon which the league must focus on in its work after finishing the settlement operation: the Israeli nuclear file, which is considered a disturbing case that must be firmly solved; creating an Arab economic bloc and establishing the joint Arab market; and dealing with cultural aspects as well as enhancing joint work in this field.
