Egypt participates in Nuclear Non-Proliferation Conference
Egypt-International, Politics, 4/20/2000
Egypt will take part in the International Conference on Reviewing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), to start in New York on Monday.
"The Conference, due to last till May 19, will evaluate progress in the NPT," said Assistant Foreign Minister for International Affairs Soleimn Awad who leads the Egyptian delegation.
"Israel is the only country which has neither joined the NPT nor opened its nuclear installations to international inspection," said Awad in press statements Wednesday.
"The indefinite extension of the NPT stipulated support to Egypt's initiative of declaring the Middle East free from all weapons of mass- destruction," said Awad.
"A decision by the Arab League gave relevant Egyptian and Arab moves more momentum," Awad added.
