Fresh archaeological find in Eastern Desert
Egypt, Culture, 4/20/2000
An Egyptian-French Excavation Mission has discovered the remains of an ancient town and a fortress dating back to three Roman eras in the Eastern Desert, said an Antiquities Official.
"The Mission also unearthed in the same area a small temple carrying red Greek inscriptions, in addition to a number of Roman-era bronze coins, sacrificial tables, a bust and earthen ware of different sizes," added Mohammed El-Sagheer, the Chief of the Egyptian Antiquities Sector.
Other finds include shreds of papyri, textiles and leather, which are seen as proving that the town had a bustling life.
