Israel releases 13 Lebanese detainees after 14 years of imprisonment
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 4/20/2000
Following 14 years of administrative detention without trial in the Israeli Eyaloun prison, some 13 Lebanese prisoners released by Israel arrived in the Lebanese town of al-Nabatieh on Wednesday afternoon.
It was a historic movement for hundreds of joyful relatives and villagers who rushed to the Kafer Tibnet crossing where cars of the International Committee of the Red Cross carrying the released prisoners arrived.
The meeting between the prisoners and their families featured festivities held among national cheers, and the flags of Lebanon and the Lebanese resistance were raised under strict security measures taken by Lebanese Army and internal security forces.
The secretary general of the committee in charge of supporting Lebanese prisoners, Muhammad Safa, said Israel still detains 20 Lebanese, including Sheikh Abdul Karim Obeid and Mustafa al-Deirani.
