7.2 million foreign workers in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia, Economics, 4/19/2000
A Saudi study confirmed that there are 7.2 million foreign workers in Saudi Arabia, representing nearly 47% of Saudi Arabia's total population. The study that was issued by the labor forces council in Saudi Arabia stated that there were no new work visas issued to foreigners unless business owners proved there is actual need for them so that the Saudi authorities could fight increasing unemployment among Saudi citizens by organizing systematic campaigns against the illegal immigrants who come to Saudi Arabia to perform the pilgrimage or the minor haj then turn into an illegal labor force.
