France and Tunis wrangle of human rights
Tunisia-France, Politics, 4/19/2000

Tunisia and France escalated their mutual campaigns after strongly-worded declarations issued in Paris and Tunis concerning the status of human rights and political liberties in Tunis regarding the French colonial greed and detentions that included some human rights activities in Tunis.

Six Tunisian associations issued a strongly-worded statement in which they criticized the French mass media and accused it of trying to interfere in Tunisia's private affairs and injuring the Tunisian people's dignity, as well as abusing Tunis like its abuse of Tunis during the presidential and parliamentary elections that were organized five months ago, in which Tunisian President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali and his party's candidates won more than 98% of the votes.
