Some 14 wounded among Aoun's partisans in clashes with Lebanese Army
Lebanon, Local, 4/19/2000

For the second straight day a confrontation took place on Tuesday between the partisans of the "Free National Trend" (al-Tayar al-Watani al-Hurr) of university students and the security forces near the Museum and the military court area.

The clashes between Michael Aoun's partisans and the army resulted in wounding 14 demonstrators after the army forces tried to disperse them by force. Hundreds of Aoun's partisans on Tuesday observed a sit-in in front of the Justice Palace, and they then marched in a silent demonstration into the military court's premises, chanting slogans and carrying banners stressing the right to freedom and self-expression.

There at the military court the Lebanese security forces which were intensively deployed asked them to leave the area "because the message was received."

A few minutes later firefighting cars came and sprayed the demonstrators with water, and then these demonstrators retreated back to the Museum area where friction acts took place between them and the army resulted in wounding two of the demonstrators Mulhim Ne'me and Rita Keirouz.

The movement on Tuesday held a press conference in Junyeh during which Michael Aoun talked in a telephone call from Paris saying, "We are preparing to withstand this stage after the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon."
