King Mohammed to tour drought-stricken regions
Morocco, Economics, 4/18/2000
King Mohammed VI will start this Tuesday a tour of drought-stricken provinces to dedicate projects meant to curb down effects of the rainfall shortage.
The king will preside over the dedication of concrete programs meant to alleviate the effects of drought on citizens and boost social action and economic activity in the drought-stricken provinces, Hassan Aourid, spokesman for the Royal Palace said.
King Mohammed will start the tour from Ksar Lakbir (northern Morocco).
The government had devised a $655 million-program to face the effects of a second consecutive dry season. The sum will be mainly used to carry out job-generating projects in rural areas, ensure regular water supply, write off small farmers' debts and finance wheat imports.
