US military official on regional visit

The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army General Henry H. Shelton, is visiting Egypt today, where he is to meet with his counterpart, Lieutenant General Magdy Anwar Hatata, chief of Staff, and Defense Minister Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi. Shelton will meet separately with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
The US Defense Department said Gen. Shelton is to travel tomorrow to Jordan for meetings with his Jordanian counterpart, Lieutenant General Mohammad Malkawi, and with King Abdullah II.
On Thursday he will meet in Rabat, Morocco, with military officials and King Mohammed VI, before returning to the United States on April 21.
