Croatia cancels military contracts with Israel

The Israeli daily Haaretz said on Monday that the new President of Croatia is working to cancel weapons contracts which were signed by the government of the former President of Croatia Franio Tudiman with the Israeli military industries.
In an interview with Steve Rodan, an editor in the British weekly " Jane's Defense weekly," the new Croatia's President said that his country seeks to join the European Union EU membership and the NATO and therefore its has to meet the requirements of such a membership especially replacing the previous military equipment by a Western technology.
The Israeli paper indicated that the Israeli military industries will loose between US $ 100 to 200 million which Israel was due to have against developing Croatian planes MiG 21.
Just five months ago, Croatia and Israel signed agreements to develop jet fighters and T 55 tanks for the Croatian army.
