Fighting erupts among Somali factions
Somalia, Local, 4/18/2000
Some 13 persons were killed, including several militia members, on Saturday and Sunday and another 20 were wounded in fighting that erupted between two factions from one tribe in southern Somalia.
AFP quoted tribal sources as saying that armed men from the militias of the Galjil and Shekal factions, both from Hayuwe tribe, clashed with machine-guns and ABJ shells in the city of Gleib and its suburbs in Juba province, over ownership of a piece of land.
Somalia, which has not had a central government since 1991, has been witnessing a civil war among the warring factions to seize the authority. As of next Thursday Djibouti will host a reconciliation conference in Somalia under the auspices of President Ismael Omar Guelleh.
